The internet is a very good place to place your ads and it will always be a good choice to do so. In fact, most websites are created for a hidden agenda – to be a board for marketing ads; well, this may seem obvious for web designers and tech savvy people, but the rest, however, are oblivious to it. This is true because there is no such thing as “free lunch,” figuratively speaking and the more free services offered by a website, the more advertisements it will have. Internet ads are good for internet marketing, but a huge hindrance for most of the internet users as it reduces the user-friendliness of the website and may lead to the loss of monthly visits which is important in search engine rankings.
Pop Up Ads
Most of the ads especially ‘pop-up ads’ are annoying and disturbing on internet users. That’s why many users install ad blocking software or plug-ins on their web browsers. Ads are not limited for internet browsing. Of course, smart phone applications also brought advancements to internet marketing ads. All of free applications that can be found on your play stores are not add-free. Some of it are needed to be purchased first before using it without ads. Needless to say, users are annoyed at this that is why sometimes they prefer using the app offline. Unfortunately (or maybe ‘fortunately’ for those who do internet marketing) there is no device yet developed for blocking ads inside applications.
Ad Block Costs
The issue of blocking advertisements is not a joke for ad publishers. According to studies ad blocking will cost almost £27 billion by 2020. This is a huge number for the industry. AdblockPlus, an ad blocking plugin for internet browsers, revealed that they now have 100 million active users. Imagine how many ads are not published for each one of this 100 million users. And these numbers are continuously growing as web users are still finding other innovative ways to keep their internet experiences from advertisement disturbances.
Some websites are working and doing something to block this blockers from their sites. One good example is “Forbes.” To be able to access this website, the major requirement is to turn off all ad blocking device on your computer. This requirement will lead the user to a choice between the things he will gain from the website against the comfort of an advertisement free browsing. But this way of blocking ad blocks is not advisable for all the websites. This is because the users may tend to find another site to use because they lost the trust on your website. Remember that “Forbes” is not just any ordinary web-based magazine and a lot of users can’t afford not to access their precious content.
A Better Way to Do It
This is the good news for marketers. Even though most of the internet users wants to get rid of your ads, there are still some who trusts advertisements. All you need to do is to work this number out. Putting an ad block plugin on your browser is easy and it’s free. So why are there still a number of users who don’t prefer to block ads? This is because they find some advertisements helpful and informative for their field of profession or interests. And this reason may be worked out to formulate a strategy to do advertising better – give the consumers what they need to know in the way they want to.
This is the problem with most of the advertisements (online or not): advertisements are usually focused on the things that the consumers need to know about the product, not considering the way of presenting it. The problem with this is, not all the consumers are interested on facts that are presented.
Well, you don’t need to lie or tell a different story about your ad. You just present the facts in a more entertaining way. Some of the advertisements on YouTube are already doing this. There is a “skip ad” button after the first five seconds of the ad, but some users don’t click this button. Why? This is because the user’s interest was caught on those first few seconds.
In this way, advertising can be a good thing for both the publisher and the web user. Another thing, pop-up ads and on-click ads are not good choices. These kinds of ads are very annoying. In fact, these kind of ads are the common reason why users block ads.
